If the flyover gets constructed, the Bangalore Golf course stands to lose a little over one acre of land and the legal team of BGC has vowed to fight tooth and nail to ensure they do not lose any more land.
The Legal team of BGC is set to hold a meeting and discuss their options as they have been no stranger to government changes. Previously due to road widening they had lost over six acres of land and they will stand to lose a little over an acre of the golf course if this move happens which would result in the golf course losing five holes in the lush golf course said a frustrated BGC member and former Retd. Col. Somsekhar.
Established in 1876, this iconic club has 3500 loyal members with close to 400 to 700 members visiting the golf course every day. This opulent golf course has already shrunk from 64 acres to 58 acres. This BDA project identifies the land to be the governments as it was leased to the BGC by them.
The proposed venture in this stretch will need a total land acquisition of 4 acres which is 19,110 square meters of land along Palace Road, Ballari Road and Mekhri Circle which includes the one acre private land of BGC for the proposed steel flyover. Surprisingly none of the BGC bungalows of ministers will be touched for this project.
Bangalore Palace stands out the be to biggest loser as this venture needs widening of the road beyond the Palace Guttahalli bus stop and opposite Tuberculosis Institute and the iconic Cauvery Theater and Palace Ground would stand to lose one acre of land also. The legacy of Bangalore city which is the Balabrooie Guest House comes under threat again as 3171 square meters of land will be acquired for the project. It was only a few months ago the government wanted to convert the guest house into a legislators club. However with the strong support of the citizens of Bangalore this property was saved. Similar protests has been encountered for Bangalore steel flyover constructions making the decision in hold for several days.
The BDA has always faced issues when acquiring defense land as they identified close to 32 guntas in the Indian Air Force training command headquarters at Mekhri Circle for acquisition for the proposed steel flyover construction.
